So notice that even AFTER their huge fight and even AFTER Loki finds out he’s adopted and he’s actually a different species and Odin basically sucks at parenting… even after all that, when Odin’s down for the count, Loki freaks right out and calls for help.

Because he still wants to be his Father’s son, even if he isn’t biologically.

don’t forget when he kills Laufey, he says “and your death came by the son of Odin.”

He still considered himself Odin’s son at that point.

Okay, frankly, neither Loki calling for help after Odin collapses, nor his saying “you die by the hand of the son of Odin” probably means much of anything. I’d kind of like it to, but it doesn’t.

It is far more likely that he calls for help to show apparent concern to others, so as not to raise alarm that he is, in fact, the reason Odin collapsed, that he has caused all this mischief in Asgard - allowing the frost giants to invade; pushing Thor to rebel against his father, do stupid things, and subsequently get banished by Odin; he was planning to take over the throne. He wanted Odin to collapse and go into the Odin sleep. He’s probably just putting on a show.

However, what does make me the teensiest bit sympathetic is the look on his face there; no one is watching, yet you can see the horrified look on his face and the tears in his eyes. (Really, Loki spends the vast majority of this movie with tears in his eyes.) His mind is a bag of cats, people.

In addition, when he attacks Laufey, shouting that he, Loki, is Odin’s son, I think he does so for the benefit of his mother and anyone else in hearing range. He does this so that he can be a hero, secure his place on the throne and the public’s opinion of him, and go to war with the frost giants. Again, putting on a show.

Hiddles is adorable, but Loki, clever as he is, I can’t like too too much because he does such awful things. I want him to be redeemable, but let’s be realistic when we analyze his behavior, shall we? He deserves the title of villain; he committed genocide; he killed 80 people in 2 days. Come on.
